PERSONAL STATEMENT MENTORING

With rising global competition, university applications are increasingly competitive. The world’s best schools typically have an acceptance rate below 10%. Admissions advisory has become par excellence for many students to get every advantage possible. QC’s Personal Statement Mentoring package helps each mentee to brainstorm, plan, and edit, for a unique narrative that impresses the admission officers. This will be customised to the countries and specific colleges applied for. Students may join this phase directly during their last year of high school or as a continuation of our Headstart Mentoring phase.

Admissions Roadmap

MENTORING OBJECTIVES

COURSE DETAILS

The Personal Statement Mentoring package consist of at least 12 sessions with 5 tasks objectives:

Task 1: Candidate Profiling & Orientation of the Application Process

QC will conduct profiling, in order to understand his/her interests, strengths, weaknesses and personality. This will include a psychometric Myer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test that assesses the student’s character and the potential suitable careers. QC also assesses the Student via a holistic development survey to ascertain weaker areas that require further development in the portfolio.

We will also orientate the Student to the application process, requirements for desired universities and countries, including US, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Task 2: Career Research, University Experience Sharing, University Research

The Student will have a session with mentors, who will share more about the specific universities of interest. This includes student life, costs and requirements of the course, and the merits of each school.

The mentor and student will also explore possible careers paths from the course. The mentor will also share more about his/her current careers as well.

Task 3: College Analysis Based on Characteristics, Admissions Statistics & Candidate Profile

Strategic college and course selection are key to a successful application. They determine the likelihood of a direct acceptance, conditional offer, and types of interview questions each candidate faces. QC analyses admissions data, individual college and professors, and provides expert recommendation to optimise selection for the best chance of success. QC and mentors will then advise on a range of safety and dream colleges possible for the Student after using our proprietary framework and insider insights on admission statistics and suitability to the Student’s profile.

Task 4: Advisory on Portfolio and Resume Preparation

Mentors will perform a thorough assessment of areas of improvements for the Student’s current Portfolio in relation to the target schools. Proposals on academic and non-academic areas of improvements will be provided and QC will work with the Student to implement the activities. Examples include organising volunteering projects, assisting in Extended Essays, Olympiad preparations, internships and research attachments.

Task 5: To Brainstorm, Plan, & Edit the Personal Statement for Final Submission

QC knows what it takes to get into the various colleges. Having been successful, the Mentors will brainstorm, guide, develop, structure, and edit the personal statements with each candidate. In the Personal Statement package, QC has no limit on the hours we put into making the perfect essay. The essay could go through 10 to 20 rounds of editing by multiple mentors to craft the most compelling application for the admissions process.

The interview sessions were more useful as the interviewers I worked with were alumni of the specific degree themselves. Therefore, they staged very realistic interviews, similar to the actual one in terms of reading material, questions asked, and general flow. I also learned to manage my body language and organise my answers better.

I thought the interview was very useful since I got to practice and also because the interview structure is very different from the typical one, so it was good to learn how to approach them. Also would have been a bit helpful if we had sessions with Bianca first since she covered the basics before going down to the centre to have the proper interview.

The interviewer preparation helped me most importantly in two ways. First, I practiced being able to answer more well thought out and organized response immediately. Without the practice it would’ve have been extremely daunting to just suddenly be asked a challenging question and be expected to answer it in a short-time frame and also the ability to come up with a coherent response in a short amount of time was absolutely critical.
