INTERVIEW MENTORING

University admission interviews are notoriously rigorous and can determine the outcome of each application. The Oxbridge academic interviews, Medical, and Law admissions interviews are particularly rigorous. QC offers proprietary interview preparatory courses by experienced mentors. Our mentors have aced these interviews before and provide students with first hand insider knowledge on faculty interviewers and model answering techniques. Academic content, pedagogy focus, with analysis of key techniques, are covered in this course.

Admissions Roadmap

MENTORING OBJECTIVES

COURSE DETAILS

The Interview Mentoring course consist of at least 12 sessions with the following 5 task objectives:

Task 1: Reading Lists & Progress Review

A curated reading list that covers potential interview topics and materials will be reviewed. This list is based on the course and college selection. QC and mentors will review each applicant’s progress and discuss key academic materials that are important for the interviews.

Task 2: Framework for Anticipated Questions

Higher order interview answers are only possible with a well thought framework that is systematic and coherent. Mentors will impart a suggested framework for answering anticipated questions.

Task 3: Body Language Review

It is crucial to project confidence, compassion and knowledge to the interviewer. Good body language and choice of words are key. Mentors will provide suggestions for improvements through a video analysis of each candidate’s performance in the simulated interviews.

Task 4: Simulated Mock Interviews

Practice makes perfect. The mentors will arrange timed mock interview sessions for students to practice answering questions under stress. Realistic interview conditions develop confidence, interview skills and time management abilities. We will also emphasise post-interview reviews to identify weak points for the Student to work on.

Task 5: Analysis of Faculty Admission Officers

The questions in an interview are heavily influenced by the interviewers and admission officers. QC and mentors will analyse the faculty interviewer’s pet topics to identify possible topics that further preparations can be done for by the Student.

The interview sessions were more useful as the interviewers I worked with were alumni of the specific degree themselves. Therefore, they staged very realistic interviews, similar to the actual one in terms of reading material, questions asked, and general flow. I also learned to manage my body language and organise my answers better.

I thought the interview was very useful since I got to practice and also because the interview structure is very different from the typical one, so it was good to learn how to approach them. Also would have been a bit helpful if we had sessions with Bianca first since she covered the basics before going down to the centre to have the proper interview.

The interviewer preparation helped me most importantly in two ways. First, I practiced being able to answer more well thought out and organized response immediately. Without the practice it would’ve have been extremely daunting to just suddenly be asked a challenging question and be expected to answer it in a short-time frame and also the ability to come up with a coherent response in a short amount of time was absolutely critical.
